Please note: The information below is now out of date. The latest information we are aware of is on the Queensland Government website here.
The Queensland Government recently announced that they would reinstate the Taxi Subsidy Scheme (TSS) for Queensland NDIS participants until June 2019.
Some people had their TSS membership cancelled when they transitioned to the NDIS. They will now have it restored until the end of June, 2019.
This should happen automatically with cards being mailed out in August. You may need to make sure the TSS has your current address.
Please note, there are no refunds for trips you took during the period that your TSS membership was cancelled.
For more information, contact the NDIS on 1800 800 110 or the TSS on 1300 134 755.
What is Happening?
People who lost their eligibility to the Queensland Taxi Subsidy Scheme because they transitioned to the Commonwealth National Disability Insurance Scheme will have their TSS membership restored until the end of June 2019.
When Do I Get TSS Back?
The Queensland Government is working to restore TSS to everybody who lost eligibility because of transition to NDIS. It is hoped to have new TSS membership cards out to all reinstated members by 11 August 2017.
Do I Need to Reapply?
No. The Queensland Government is working to make this process automatic. Your new TSS card will be sent to you in the mail.
Why is this Happening?
The Queensland Government is aware of concerns raised by some former TSS customers and the Queensland Disability Network (QDN) about accessing support for transport purposes under there NDIS.
It is important that people with disabilities are not put at a transport cost disadvantage. That is why government has decided to provide the TSS as an ‘in-kind’ contribution to the NDIS until mid-2019.
During this time, TMR will continue to work with DCCSDS and the NDIA to ensure these issues are investigated and resolved as a priority.
Will I be Eligible for TSS Subsidies for Taxi Trips that I Took During the Period that My TSS Membership was Cancelled?
No. Retrospective reimbursement will not be provided. Contributions for trips taken during this period will depend on your NDIS Plan.
For further details, please contact NDIS on 1800 800 110.
I Haven’t Got NDIS Yet, But it is Coming to My Area Soon. What Should I Do?
NDIS provides benefits to people with disabilities. The Queensland Government recommends that you proceed with applying for and developing an NDIS Plan.
Subject to the usual rules, your TSS eligibility will continue to the end of June 2019. The Queensland Government will continue to make the TSS available to NDIS participants on an ‘in-kind’ basis during this period.
I Need to Know More. Who Can I Talk With About This?
You can contact NDIS on 1800 800 110 or the TSS on 1300 134 755
I’m Not Eligible for NDIS. How Will this Affect Me?
There will be no changes to your TSS membership.
Will I be Able to Use My New TSS Card Straight Away?
Yes. Your new TSS card will be active on receipt.
How Much TSS Can be Paid?
TSS pays half of members’ taxi fares, up to a maximum fare of $50. There is no limit on the number of taxi journeys members make take to attract the subsidy. The subsidy is paid to taxi drivers – members have no additional costs.
