Preparing for Prep with Montrose

With the support of the Gold Coast Montrose team, four-year-old Daniel is prepared to begin schooling life in 2022.

“The girls [therapists] have nicknamed it “Prep Prep”, they’re helping him develop his confidence, sit at a table for an extended time and maintain his attention span.” said Daniel’s Mum Alex.

Daniel has been attending Montrose since 2019 when he first received NDIS funding to support him with a variety of goals. Daniel access Speech Pathology, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy at the Montrose Gold Coast centre in Arundel. Alex says that he has responded really well to all of the therapies, but he particularly loves Physiotherapy.

“He’s responded really well to Physio. He just loves movement,” she said.

Alex was glad to find Montrose, after struggling to find ongoing and reliable access to therapy on the Gold Coast.

“It’s so friendly at Montrose. There’s no judgement, you see other families being taken care of and you just feel so welcome. Daniel loves it, he has his shy moments but he really enjoys coming here and I can see the improvements,”

To support Daniel and his family, Montrose therapists recommended equipment to hire and provided visual aids, activities and ideas for mealtimes to help make the day-to-day easier in Daniel’s home life.

With the support of the Montrose team, Alex is looking forward to the big year ahead.

“It’s about just knowing the little changes here and there to make the whole day easier for everyone. I know what’s going on in his head, and what’s going to trigger happy or bad emotions and responses.”

With the delayed start to Prep in 2022, Daniel is keeping up with regular therapy sessions to continue preparing himself for schooling life.
