Once you have registered to access the NDIS, you will then go through the planning process. At this time, a representative from the NDIA or their local coordinator will contact you to ask you about your goals to help you develop your first plan.
For your first plan, the NDIA representative or local coordinator will work with you to identify the reasonable and necessary supports you’ll need to make your goals a reality.
Most conversations for making first plans will be conducted over the phone, but if you are unable to complete your conversation over the phone, the NDIS can make alternative arrangements. Making your first plan through alternative arrangements will not limit the supports available to you; everyone has access to the same supports.
Once your plan is finalised, it can be implemented and you will be receive your individualised funding through it. One of the goals of the NDIS is to give you more control over your supports, so you will be able to choose how to use this funding.
It’s okay if you are unsure of what your long-term goals are for the NDIS. The focus of your first plan is on your immediate needs so you can consider your longer term goals later. You can also contact your NDIA representative at any stage to discuss any ideas you have. A scheduled plan review will be done at 12 months so you can reassess how your plan is working for you.
