In 2016, we have been working tirelessly on projects to provide a brighter future for young people with a disability, like four-year-old Elijah, whose journey with Montrose began a few years ago.
Elijah’s developmental delay means he does not reach development milestones at expected times for his age. Elijah now works with several of our therapists, undergoing physio, speech and occupational therapy. Through the extra confidence granted to him by Montrose services, he has made new friends and met other kids with a disability.
Another case that highlights Montrose’s purpose is Nhon, who connected with us in 2002 for support for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), a genetic disorder that is characterised by progressive muscle weakening.
Now 22-year-old Nhon is studying at university, demonstrating his passion, creativity, intelligence and kindness each day and overcoming the limits of his rare condition with his contagious positivity. Over the years Nhon has taken advantage of the many services and assistance offered by Montrose, including the Lifestyle and Leisure Gap Year program, which was recently proven, through a Montrose study, to create approximately $2.21 of social and economic value for every $1 invested.
Supporting people like Elijah and Nhon so they can live a life full of fun and new experiences is our ultimate goal. We need your help investing in services and projects that are unfunded, like the ‘Our Getaway’ initiative.
Earlier this year, Montrose opened a one-of-a-kind fully accessible holiday home in Labrador, known as Our Getaway Gold Coast. The home includes technology and design features to enable full accessibility and extensive support for every guest. The project was funded through donations from the Runaway Bay Children in Need Beneficiary Fund and the Gold Coast community.
Without these generous contributions, this project would have never happened, and young people living with a disability and their families would not have this amazing opportunity to relax in a safe, secure and fully accessible environment.
Montrose is deeply committed to creating, identifying and funding sustainable projects that will provide physical, emotional and social support to people in our community who need our assistance. We rely on the community to continue their amazing support of Montrose. Any donation, big or small, will go towards making a real difference to the lives of our customers.
