Therapy Services
Therapy Services consists of Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Recreation, Speech Pathology and Social Work. The service is aided by the Therapy Support team which consists of administration and therapy administration staff.
Therapy Services promote practices which enable our clients and their families to achieve their independence, educational outcomes and maximum individual potential for the best possible quality of life.
Therapy Programs
MontroseAccess currently has three distinct programs with different objectives, entry criteria and models of service. These programs are our original program, which has been renamed the Marchant program; the Early Childhood Program; and the Lifestyle and Leisure program.
-
The Marchant Program provides state wide, team based, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology, and Social work services to approximately 480 clients throughout Queensland. The program is administered from the Corinda, Strathpine, Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast offices. Services are available for children (0-18) with principally a physical disability. Many of the children who are clients of the Marchant program are able to access recreation services and some psychology services are also available. Children enter the Marchant program via assessment against specific entry criteria
-
The Early Childhood Program is a relatively new initiative. There are two teams, consisting of a Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Speech Pathologist, Social Worker, Therapy Support Worker, and consultant Psychologist. The teams aim to strengthen the family's capacity to support their child's growth and development through education, utilisation of the child's support networks, provision of specialist knowledge and information about the child's disability, and networking with other service providers. Children enter the Early Childhood program via assessment against specific entry criteria.
The Early Childhood North team is based at the Strathpine office and provides services to children living in the northern suburbs of Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast and Wide Bay regions. The Early Childhood South team is based at the Corinda office and provides services to children living in the southern suburbs of Brisbane. They also have an extensive outreach service to the Gold Coast.
-
The Lifestyle and Leisure (LLP) Program, established early in 2007, is our first funded adult therapy program, and provides a community based service for young adults who reside in the Greater Brisbane area. The Lifestyle and Leisure Program aims to assist young adults with complex physical disabilities, to enhance their quality of life. Programs are time limited and intensive. The program is staffed by an Occupational Therapist and Recreation Officer, who encourage and support young adults to set up and independently maintain a meaningful lifestyle and valued community role, utilising formal and informal networks. Mixed Mode of Service Delivery
The therapy teams are committed to home and school visits as it is essential to work in the client's natural environment.
A goal is to develop the MontroseAccess centre as part of the client's community, so families are also regular visitors to MontroseAccess offices at Corinda, Strathpine, Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast. These visits may be for initial assessments, review of the client's needs, group programs for parents and/or clients, hydrotherapy, splint prescriptions and programs of direct therapy.
An Individual Plan for Each Client and Family
Each MontroseAccess client has a twelve month Individual Plan which consists of some of the following elements:
- Informal and formal supports
- An outline of tasks and people needed to achieve the goals
- The contribution that MontroseAccess is able to make
- The contribution of the parents, family members and interested others
- Possible gaps in services
- How the therapist and family work together to meet the needs of each client.
Key Worker
Each client is assigned a Key Worker - the Key Worker is a role within the therapy team at MontroseAccess, where one member of the team takes some additional responsibility for the client. The Key Worker does the following:
- Is the main contact person between you and the team, for general issues for the client.
- The Key Worker may also communicate on the client's behalf to other people in the client's environment eg. teachers
- Performs necessary administrative tasks eg. making sure MontroseAccess team reports are written, and ensuring our forms are updated
- Ensures that our service to you is as efficient and effective as possible.
Maximising Educational Outcomes
Education is a powerful tool for independence and success. After the family, the educational setting can have the most influence on the client. MontroseAccess therapy teams are committed to supporting the client's educational team by provision of education about the condition, practical advice and consultation and specialised equipment prescriptions and loans where necessary.
Referral Information
MontroseAccess receives a large number of referrals each year. The organisation cannot accept all referrals and follows an admission process to ensure our client’s needs are met with the highest quality of service.
In offering a place to a client, we consider what is in the best interest of the client concerned, the availability of services we can provide to meet the needs of the client, and whether other service providers that specialise in a particular condition may be more suitable.
All client admissions are at the discretion of MontroseAccess after thorough review of the client’s condition and our ability to meet the service requirements.
Therapy Services
MontroseAccess provides disability management and services within the Queensland community for children and young adults with chronic physical disabilities.
Guidelines for possible registration for Therapy include:
- The predominance of a physical disability which has significant impact on physical function.
- The client would benefit from input by a team of our specialist therapists, not just input from one aspect of therapy or for a specific short-term programme of therapy.
- The client's family wants the child or young adult to become a MontroseAccess client in a partnership arrangement.
- MontroseAccess can provide a relevant service for the client with positive outcomes.
- There is no duplication or overlap with another service provider.
If you would like to make a therapy referral enquiry please contact the Admissions Officer.
