Service Delivery to Queensland

Teams

For practical purposes, MontroseAccess organises our therapists in teams, mostly consisting of a physiotherapist, occupational therapist, recreation officer, social worker and speech pathologist. Your child may not receive a service from all members of that team but they are available if needed.

Each team is assigned a region in which it provides individualised services to children who live in that region e.g. the Pine Rivers team provides a therapy service in the far northern suburbs of Brisbane.

Regional Offices

MontroseAccess has its main facility at Corinda, with three regional offices - at Strathpine, and the Gold and Sunshine Coasts. Therapists based at the Corinda office cover Brisbane and most of the outreach (statewide) services.

Of course, our regional offices have been developed in response to demand.

The Gold Coast has had a local team since 1994. This office provides services to children living from the NSW border to Beenleigh and to the Gold Coast hinterland. It is quite a large service and is able to provide most of the therapy and recreation services provided at Corinda.

In 2000, we opened our second regional office on the Sunshine Coast. It is a smaller local team which provides a service to children living from Caboolture to Bundaberg and to the Sunshine Coast hinterland. The team provides a service to Gympie, Hervey Bay, Maryborough and Bundaberg as an outreach team i.e. three visits per year with email and phone consultations between visits.

The Strathpine office opened in mid-2007, and is home to the Pine Rivers and Early Childhood North teams, who support around 100 clients in the Northern suburbs of Brisbane; Redcliffe, Caboolture and Kilcoy shires.

Outreach services

MontroseAccess has three outreach teams:

• The Central Queensland or Statewide team
• The Darling Downs and western Queensland team
• The Wide Bay Burnett team.

Together, these teams provide a statewide specialist service to our clients. Outreach teams tend to have a greater number of children with severe and complex needs, often with neuromuscular conditions.

The service is a consultative one with MontroseAccess either supporting local service providers by offering specialist information regarding the client's condition and up to date management practices. Alternatively, the team may supply the sole service to a child where there are no local service providers.

On average, the teams visit each family in the local community twice per year. This is a comprehensive visit which usually includes a home and school visit. Additional support is provided between visits through phone calls and emails to parents, educational staff and other relevant people in the child’s world. Families are also expected to contact MontroseAccess if they are planning a visit to Brisbane so they can consult with the therapist team on site.

On Site Service

The On Site Service provides a service for children:

• Whose parents live near an office and can bring them into MontroseAccess to receive our services
• With mild disabilities which may require only short term intervention
• Who are on our waiting list to enter a team based service.

The On Site model is very successful and has increased our capacity to support our clients and their families in Queensland.

The Lifestyle and Leisure Program

The MontroseAccess Lifestyle and Leisure Program aims to enable young adults (aged 18-25) with physical disabilities to identify and achieve their lifestyle and leisure goals as they establish adult roles in the community.

The program can assist clients in the areas of:

• Learning new skills for independent living
• Developing friendships and social networks
• Accessing the community for education, work and recreation
• Strengthening community connections.

Social group activities and holidays are also offered where appropriate to assist in reaching the goals of individuals.

Early Childhood Program

The MontroseAccess Early Childhood Program provides an early and responsive service which supports and empowers families of young children who have a physical disability.

The Program is for Queensland families who have a child aged between 0 and 8 years, and aims to:

• Work with the family to support the child's development
• Provide tailored individual and group intervention within the child's everyday settings
• Help families to develop connections and networks within the community
• Provide information and support to family members and other important people in the child's life
• Adapt therapy ideas to suit individual circumstances, so that they can be included in daily life.
